"I want to get re-married on the beach in Hawaii."
Ted had heard it often enough and I'd been sprinkling subtle hints here and there for a while. A gym bag made of a Hawaiian print. Hawaiian music on my car radio when he got in. Hawaiian sunsets on my computer screen. Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii on the television. Tiki shaped glasses, chocolate covered Macadamia nuts and pineapple to make our "own private Hawaii" in Palm Springs. OK...so maybe the hints weren't all that subtle.
For my last birthday our dear friends Debbie & Brenda threw me a birthday party...a luau. I was in heaven. Finally an excuse to get Ted to Hilo Hattie's. The ultimate Hawaiian hint. We went...we saw... I bought. I didn't think he was nearly as excited about the store as I was. I was wrong. Ted had a plan that started with my birthday, my birthday presents (plumeria shaped jewelry and my beautiful Hawaiian dress) and continued with a phone call.
I was in the middle of a project at work the day he called. He was going to surprise me for my birthday but couldn't wait. "Want to go to Hawaii?" "Yep." My mind really wasn't on the phone call. "Tomorrow is good for me." When he repeated the question I quickly refocused my attention. "Are you serious?"
He was. For our fifth wedding anniversary we flew to Honolulu, Hawaii...the island of Oahu...to renew our wedding vows and enjoy a second honeymoon. Even as the plane took off it still seemed unreal that we were on our way to Hawaii.
We hope you enjoy the memories on the next few pages...'cause we sure enjoyed making the memories on the next few pages.
Aloha! Ted & Paula
